How the re-tender score works

The score is a count of published contract notices. It is not a forecast, a recommendation, or advice. Pro and Team show it beside each contract, with a short explanation.

What is counted

For earlier contracts at the same agency and in the same category, we look for the later contract that most plausibly replaced it: a similar description, a start near the earlier end date, and a broadly similar value. A clear outcome is one of three things. A different supplier won that replacement. The same supplier won it. Or there was no replacement, but an amendment moved the end date out.

Ambiguous cases, where several suppliers match equally, are left out. Contracts with no plausible replacement are left out too. The score uses only outcomes that were already knowable before the contract you are looking at started.

The number

The score is the percentage of those clear outcomes that went to a different supplier. 70 and above is high. 40 to 69 is mixed. Under 40 means the incumbent usually kept the work. The retention rate is the share the existing supplier kept, including extensions.

Fewer than five clear outcomes is not enough history. The row says so, instead of showing a thin percentage.

What it does not know

An agency can extend a contract, change how it buys, or call the work off a panel. The score does not see supplier performance, and it does not see approaches to market. Check the source notice on AusTender before you rely on a row.
